As part of the Science and Technology Week in Slovakia 2019, doctoral students of the Institute of Experimental Psychology of the Center for Social and Psychological Sciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences prepared three popularization lectures for you in the meeting room of the pavilion of the Institutes of Social Sciences:
6.11.2019 at 16:00 -- Daša Strachanová: My truth is better than yours
Naturally, each of us thinks they are rational. However, we are often unable to objectively and impartially find and evaluate the information we receive. It causes a tendency for self-confirmation. The lecture will show you what causes it, what its effects on people’s lives are and how to reduce it.
6.11.2019 at 16:50 -- Zuzana Kaššaiová: Non-technical skills – great help or useless concept?
Cicero was already asking himself the question: Is it natural for a person to make mistakes? Despite state-of-the-art technology, our mental and psychological powers are limited and much of the world and universe is beyond our comprehension and control. However, there are spheres where we have control. So how is it possible that mistakes are made in these areas? The lecture will show you what non-technical skills are, what can cause their lack and where we can use them.
6.11.2019 at 17:40 -- Andrea Zelienková: Why do people take risks?
The decisions to start a business, as well as the investment decision, are made under conditions of great risk and stress. Nevertheless, some people are committed to this decision. In the presentation, you will learn more about what cognitive assumptions can be made by people who take more risks and whether there are ways to avoid suboptimal business and investment decisions.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the presentations!
